TOPIC: FRIENDSHIP

MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 27:17 – “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Peter 4:8-10
[8]And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
[9]Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
[10]As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To help individuals understand the importance of cultivating meaningful and Godly relationships. Through the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Understand the biblical perspective on friendships.
2. Explore the importance of keeping Godly friendships.

INTRODUCTION: Friendship is a close and mutually supportive relationship between two or more people characterized by affection, trust, respect, empathy, and shared experiences. In friendships, individuals offer emotional support, companionship, and understanding to one another, fostering a sense of belonging and connection. John 15:13, Proverbs 17:17. Friendship is the attachment of one person to another marked by natural affection and trust. A friend is a person whose company one enjoy and toward whom one feels affection. A friend is also an associate who provides assistance proverbs 27:17, proverbs 18:24, Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. A true friend is one who is a friend indeed. May the lord give us true friend and make us a friend indeed in Jesus mighty name, amen.

A. GODLY FRIENDSHIPS.
1. God Himself desires friendship with us.
2. In John 15:15, This profound truth reminds us that friendship is not only a human experience but also a divine one. John 15:13.
3. As we navigate our teenage years, let’s strive to build Godly friendships rooted in love, respect, and faith. Proverbs 13:20.
4. This verse challenges us to choose our friends wisely, surrounding ourselves with those who will uplift and encourage us in our journey of faith.
5. True friends challenge and encourage each other to grow and improve, fostering mutual growth and development. Proverbs 18:24, 1 Corinthians 5:33.

B. THE IMPACT OF KEEPING GODLY FRIENDS. Keeping Godly friendships has numerous benefits which include:
1. Spiritual Growth: Godly friends can encourage and challenge us in our faith journey. They can pray for us, share spiritual insights, and hold us accountable in living out our beliefs. Job 42: 10.
2. Emotional Support: Godly friends provide a source of comfort and encouragement during difficult times. 1 Thessalonians 5: 11.
3. Positive Influence: Surrounding ourselves with Godly friends can help us resist negative influences and temptations.
4. Community and Fellowship: Godly friendships foster a sense of belonging and community within the body of Christ.
5. Accountability: Godly friends can help keep us accountable in our walk with God. They lovingly challenge us to live in alignment with God’s will, offering gentle correction and guidance when needed. Rom 12: 10, 1 Peter 4:8-10.
6. Celebration and Joy: Godly friendships are marked by mutual joy and celebration. We rejoice together in God’s blessings, milestones, and answered prayers, sharing in each other’s joys and victories.

SUMMARY: True friendship extends beyond surface-level interactions and embraces authenticity and vulnerability. Let’s cultivate relationships where we can share our joys, struggles, and aspirations openly, knowing that our friends will offer wise counsel and unwavering support.
